Dr. Andre Grace of the University of Alberta Faculty of Education
presents his
research and advocacy on behalf of sexual and gender minority youth and young adults
Welcome to the University of Alberta Phi Delta Kappa's first dinner and presentation on the 2020-2021 schedule. We are pleased to announce that on December 1, 2020. Dr. Andre Grace of the University of Alberta Faculty of Education will present his pioneering research and advocacy on behalf of sexual and gender minority youth and young adults. Dr. Grace is an award-winning researcher and advocate who is director of the Chew Project (Community, Health, Empowerment Wellness) and Canada Research Chair in Sexual and Gender Minority Studies at the University of Alberta.
We are in unusual and uncertain times when it comes to professional development for educators in all facets of education. The University of Alberta Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa has provided small, face-to-face professional development on topics of interest to educators at all levels in the Edmonton area for over 50 years. It is our goal to continue to provide quality professional development within a collegial setting that includes time for sharing with other educators over meals.
Attached is detailed information regarding the December 1 dinner and presentation including how to register. Due to a lack of space, we were unable to explain new payment procedures. These are outlined below along with key points regarding Covid-19 guidelines. They are:
Not A PDK Member? Not a problem.
The U of A Chapter of PDK would like as many local educators as possible to attend this dinner topic and special induction of new members - so we are offering seats at a price only slightly above what members pay. That said, we are currently in the middle of a membership drive and would really like more Edmonton-area educators (teachers, administrators, students, researchers, teacher educators, ministry officials, and post-secondary instructors) to consider joining our organization. We are a small but vibrant organization of local educators from every role and experience level and we are dedicated to educational leadership, service and research.
Interested in Joining Us? It’s as easy as 1, 2, & 3.
Feel free to forward this email or the attached poster to other educators who may be interested in participating. You are also welcome to print the poster and share it/post it.

- To register please email aah4@ualberta.ca by November 24, 2020. Alberta Health Services has limited the number of attendees to functions of this nature to 15 due to Covid-19, so please register and pay early. Once we are at the limit, we will maintain a waiting list, as Alberta Health Services will review current restrictions on or about November 20. This may allow us to have more attendees.
- As we must guarantee numbers to the University Club, we require payment in advance. The cost is $40 for members and $45 for non-members. You can pay via electronic transfer to alain@ualberta.ca and the money will be deposited to the PDK account and your seat for the evening will be reserved. Please indicate in the message section PDK December 1 to allow our treasurer to track payments as they come in.
- We must let the University Club know attendance by November 25.
- Alberta Health Services require attendees to wear masks while entering, exiting, and having conversations and to physically distance. We can remove masks to eat and drink. Tables will be physically distanced, and we will only be allowed to have 4 people at each table.
- As well, the meal and drinks will be served at tables instead of a buffet.
